About Apple
Apple is a multinational technology company that is focused on the design, development, and sale of consumer electronics, computer software, and online services. While serving as one of the United States’ top 5 information technology companies, Apple also operates as one of the most widely recognized smartphone and tablet companies in the world.
Apple was first established in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne for the means of selling the Apple I computer developed by Wozniak. A year after their formation and the leave of Ronald Wayne, Apple Computers Inc. was incorporated and they soon began selling their Apple II computer. In 1980, Apple went public and set their focus on the development of new programs and technologies.
After Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak left the company in the 1980s, Apple faced heavy competition as the personal computer market began to expand through the following decade. After various attempts to regain market share, Apple successfully brought back Steve Jobs in 1997 as he took on leadership. In the following years, Steve Jobs would evolve Apple’s product lineup and image as they introduced the iMac, iPod, and eventually the iPhone after their 2007 rebranding as Apple Inc.
Over the following years, Apple would continue developing their mobile phones, electronic devices, and software. In 2011, Steve Jobs resigned due to his health, and Tim Cook assumed the position of CEO. Steve Jobs passed away due to health complications two months later, and many considered it an end of an era for Apple. Leading into the present, however, Apple has continued to develop and grow, finishing their 2020 year with an annual revenue of $274.5 billion.
