About Piper Aircraft

Piper Aircraft was founded in 1927 in Rochester, New York, under the name Taylor Brothers Aircraft Manufacturing Company. Two years later, the company moved to Bradford, Pennsylvania, and was purchased by William T. Piper in 1930. Piper took the position of secretary-treasurer, and renamed the company Taylor Aircraft Company. After Taylor left the company and the factory was moved to Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, the company rebranded as Piper Aircraft Corporation.

During World War II, Piper produced many aircraft and aircraft components for the armed forces. Following the war, the company continued to diversify its product platform through various acquisitions. During the 1960’s and 1970’s, Piper built warplanes for the Korean War, and continued to develop new aircraft. Through the end of the 20th century, Piper faced various hardships such as the flooding of their factory, bankruptcy, and major restructuring. In the early 2000’s, the company began to turn around through continued restructuring. Presently, they have had the opportunity to work with Fanmei Aviation Technologies and L3 Commercial Aviation to develop and deliver more aircraft, increasing their business presence.
